Mathematician

Job Summary
Senior Mathematician is responsible for designing math models for gaming products and working closely with the game development artists, sound designers, game designers, and producers.

Qualifications Required
Experience
3 years experience as a Mathematician in a gaming environment.

Skills and Abilities
Ability to interface and communicate with other members of the game development staff.
Ability to bring projects to completion.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Experience in C++ programming helpful.

Responsibilities


Serves as a leader within the studio by:
Setting a positive example and leading by demonstrating a strong work ethic.
Developing long-term thinking in the team and fostering proactive problem solving approaches.
Motivating creative, forward-thinking within the team.
Developing promotable mathematicians.



Provides math expertise by:
Working with the team to clearly assess the feasibility of the working math model.
Working with the game designer to develop a math model with the players needs in mind.
Managing the ongoing development of the math documentation to ensure that it remains accurate and up-to-date.
Ensuring a fun, consistent, and competitive product within the scope of the project.
Maximizing the use of existing technology.
Is an active participant / contributor in the game design process.

Demonstrates a high degree of skill in implementing math by:
Verifying the accuracy of the math model.
Providing the theoretical proof of the model.
Maintaining all documents relating to the math.
Working with the Game programmer to ensure proper implementation of the math model.



Serves as the lead member of the math staff by:
Playing the game frequently to review the math implementation and providing team with constructive feedback as necessary.
Contributing to daily game design, implementation, and tuning efforts.
Delivering quality work as scheduled in accordance with the game design, product requirements, and producer direction.
Conforming to the math standards.
Creating and maintaining / enforcing a clear, clean directory structure for all math assets.
Working to minimize required rework.



Serves as the prime training resource for the math staff by:
Actively participating in the candidate selection and review process.
Ensuring that all mathematicians understand their job requirements.
Providing comprehensive new hire training on tools and techniques in all areas of their job requirements.
Ensuring on-going training for all math candidates.
Establishing reasonable and consistent performance expectations that all mathematicians know. Constantly review and confirm that the appropriate precedence is being set.
Proactively evaluating mathematicians to identify areas of growth.
Confronting and addressing all inappropriate business behavior among the math staff. Communicating all such behavior to the producer.
Making effective, timely termination recommendations.
