Senior Staff Accountant-General Ledger & Financial Reporting

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for support of the general ledger and financial reporting of the Finance department, with an emphasis on loan activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Posses a working knowledge of the general ledger and systems related to loan activities.

Reconcile general ledger loan detail to supporting systems, including single family, consumer and income property loans. Prepare journal entries related to income property loan activity.

Prepare journal entries and reconciliations of mortgage servicing rights on a monthly basis. Provide support and analysis with regard to mortgage servicing rights. Posses a basic understanding of FASB Statement 140.

Prepare journal entries and reconciliations of deferred loan fees on a monthly basis. Provide support regarding FAS 91 methodology analysis and documentation. Posses a basic understanding of FASB Statement 91.

Generate and distribute financial reports following month-end close.

Miscellaneous journal entries and research related to month-end closing of the general ledger and financial reporting.

All tasks related to HomeStreet Bank B & O tax and sales & use tax returns, Federal and state 945 withholding, including preparation, filing, reconciliations, recording to the g/l and research of issues.

Responsible for unclaimed property account ongoing maintenance and annual filing.

Work with auditors and regulators in relation to audits and examinations.

Keep the Assistant Controller regularly informed of the status of projects and duties.

Backup for the preparation of daily journal entries related to loan funding, loan purchases and loan conversions.


B.A. in accounting or related equivalent.

Minimum 3 to 5 years related work experience. Mortgage banking experience strongly preferred.

Computer skills - General ledger and Microsoft Office PC software with an emphasis on Excel and Access preferred. Willingness to learn other software as needed.

Work cooperatively with and maintain effective communication and working relationship with co-workers and managers.

Must be a self starter and dependable with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.

Possess good judgment, ability to accept responsibility, set priorities and handle multiple priorities.

Ability to learn quickly, ask questions, take instruction constructively, and be flexible in doing assorted tasks.

Willingness to assume additional responsibilities/ duties/ projects as they arise.

Willing to gain additional education/training.
