Senior Tax Accountant

  Central Garden & Pet Company   (NASDAQ:CENT), a leading innovator, marketer and producer of quality branded products for the pet and lawn and garden supplies markets, is seeking to fill this position on its corporate finance team located in  Walnut Creek, CA.  This position reports to the Tax Director and will also work with other personnel throughout the company.

 

Major responsibilities include: Prepare complex federal, multi-state, and local tax returns including estimates and extensions.  Perform tax research, analysis, and planning for tax minimization and develop support for positions taken.  Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions under FAS 109 and analysis of tax sensitive GL accounts.  Perform project work that requires technical knowledge, practical problem solving skills, and effective written and verbal communication skills.

 

Requirements:  We are looking for a self starting tax professional that shows enthusiasm, thinks ?outside the box? and thrives in a fast paced and dynamic environment.  This person is effective working independently or as a team member.

 

 

To qualify, a Bachelor?s degree in accounting or business is required; CPA is a plus.  You must have 4-7 years experience in federal and state corporate taxation.  A strong working knowledge of FAS 109 is required.  You should have experience in researching and analyzing apportionment, allocation, and nexus issues.  You must be proficient in tax preparation software, tax research software as well as Microsoft Excel and Word.  Exceptionally strong organizational, research, and analytical skills are needed.  Distribution, manufacturing and uniform capitalization taxation experience is a plus.  Occasional travel may be required.
