Sr Budgeting & Expense Analyst

The Finance team is structured in four major functions that are closely aligned and interact on a frequent basis in order to achieve the collective mandate:

* Budgeting and Expense Management
* Reporting and Analysis
* Strategic Modeling and Forecasting
* Enterprise Planning

The role of the Senior Expense and Budgeting Analyst is to assist the Expense and Budgeting Manager in the creation and maintenance of a framework and processes to command primary ownership of the bank's expense management and budgeting functions. The Senior Expense and Budgeting Analyst must develop an intimate familiarity with both the bank's core commercial activities, as well as a detailed understanding of the associated expenses and operational activities. The primary focus of this position is to assist the Expense and Budgeting Manager in developing a more comprehensive suite of analytical tools (activity-based costing, fixed vs. variable costing, scenario planning, trending) and reporting capabilities (actual, forecasts, variances, reconciliations etc).

* Expenses
- Design a process and systemic capabilities to support strategic expense
management, such as fixed vs. variable costing, scenario planning, product
costing, flexible budgeting
- Develop a set of cost metrics to support low cost leadership and compare to
external benchmarks, such as other direct and traditional banks or specific
bank functions
- Monthly reporting showing actual performance versus budget and forecast
- Develop monthly qualitative commentary related to expense position -
specifically addressing variances to budget and forecast including a
reconciliation
- Develop a standard suite of standard expense reports including an inventory of
previous expense forecasts and variance to actuals
- Provide expense support in situations where customers require organization-
wide expense information, such as Mortgage Bankers Association /STRATMOR
- Financial reviews with senior management - roll up schedules and key metrics
- Include individual and aggregate views for ING Bank, fsb and ING Bancorp

* Reporting
- Develop and present review packages for management, summarize key
issues, and identify risks and opportunities
- Receive proper signoff and review for all completed reporting requirements in
accordance with internal and external requirements (frequency varies)
- Perform a review of the MTP/Forecast, key performance metrics, and initiatives
to measure achievement of stated goals and objectives

* General
- Keeping abreast of current trends in finance, budgeting, forecasting and
accounting in order to be able to provide substantive input to matters
surrounding these areas (ongoing)
- Provide support in regards to various internal ad hoc projects and reports (as
required)
- Work with the ED team on data required to ensure proper working knowledge
is maintained in Finance regarding budgeting and forecasting (ongoing

Qualifications:
* A post-secondary degree in Accounting/Finance
* CFA/CPA designation desirable
* 5 - 7 years relevant work experience in expense management and budgeting
* 5 years work experience with information systems.

Technical skills and abilities:
* Proficiency with office automation software (MS Office Suite)
* Ability to be adaptable and flexible while responding to deadlines on assignments and workflow fluctuations
* Experience with database applications and automated reporting solutions
* Ability to work with concepts and work independently
* Strong command of advanced analytical concepts, such as EVA, Embedded Value, RAROC
* Excellent problem diagnosis and analytical skills
* Ability to balance several conflicting demands to achieve optimum services performance with minimum disruption to business operations
* Sound experience in devising ways to extract data from many sources and translate this data into useful information.
* Ability to be adaptable and flexible while responding to deadlines on assignments and workflow fluctuations

Working Conditions:
* Standard Hours: 8:30AM - 5:30PM (limited flex-time possible).
* Overtime as required.
* Standard during inclement weather conditions.
