Baxter BioScience is searching for an exceptional business analyst to join the Strategy and Portfolio Management team in Westlake Village, California. The Analyst of Strategy and Portfolio Management will work independently and as a key team member in coordinating and executing portfolio management and decision analytic processes for the BioScience division of Baxter Healthcare. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing complex mathematical and financial models as part of the Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) process, assessing the quality of inputs and outputs, and ensuring timely delivery of end products across the global business. The individual will use superior quantitative methods and risk-adjusted financial valuation to assist in analyzing investment trade-offs across the R&D portfolio or between R&D, commercial, manufacturing, business development, regulatory, and other functions.
The individual will be responsible for a large, comprehensive analytical system that provides value-based decision support, recommendations, and assessments of key issues in the BioScience R&D portfolio. Responsibilities will include visual basic macro development, development of concise mathematical models, generating insightful outputs and reports, and responding quickly to key business questions. Due to the nature of the teams and Baxter's global presence, this person will be required to effectively communicate with colleagues of diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
Qualifications
Applicants must have the ability to think strategically and participate actively in decision analysis processes, including problem formulation, meeting facilitation, model development, computer implementation, and presentations to decision-makers. Candidates should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have excellent analytic and problem solving skills. Hands-on proficiency with spreadsheets, Excel macros, and the potential to use advanced decision support analytical tools (e.g., decision analysis software, monte carlo simulation, optimization) are a must. Good communication skills (both oral and written) and familiarity with the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry are preferred. Ideal candidates have a BS, MS, or MBA in decision sciences, management science, business, economics, or related quantitative field with some exposure to business problems through work experience or project-oriented coursework.
