Variance Analyst

Nortel is looking for a driven individual to support the tracking of cost reductions by performing investigation and analysis of purchase price variations. This will involve detailed analysis of variations, summarization to provide key metrics to the business primes as well as performing detailed analysis of the variations to identify and rectify system and process issues. Account reconciliations from the sub-ledger to the financial ledgers will be part of this activity ensuring compliance to GAAP and SOX requirements. It will involve ad hoc analysis for the business primes. From time to time there may be some costing support provided to the costing team to allow for load leveling across the SAP support team during peak activities, or to provide backup for the global team. The role will involve investigating the root cause of variations, evaluating if there are process errors that need to be addressed, and working with business partners to resolve issues to prevent future errors. The candidate will have previous experience in a manufacturing environment providing analysis of purchase variations and/or inventory-related transactions. In addition, the candidate should have an accounting degree. Strong Excel skills are mandatory (V-lookups, filters, sorting, pivot tables), as there are large amounts of data that will have to be analyzed. A working knowledge of Access is a benefit. SAP experience is a plus. Must be a self-starter and a quick learner and work with minimal supervision.
