Business Unit Controller – REIT, SAM, SVB Securities, SVB Global

 

A top-rated, award winning, $5+ billion, financially strong financial group is currently looking for a motivated division Controller to help guide its ever-expanding business. This individual will be a self-starter who has an expertise in accounting and financial decision-making. 

 

The Business Unit Controller will:

- Manage the month end close process for above Business Unit entities,

- Preparation of yearend audited stand-alone financial statements for applicable Business Unit entities.  Primary liaison with outside accounting firms for audits of financial statements.

- Review accounting entries, review financial statements prepared by outside accounting firms prior to input into the corporate GL and supervise other finance staff to ensure proper accounting.

- Ensure accounting procedures and systems comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, GAAP, applicable internal policies and regulatory requirements.

- Oversee and review preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for above entities, including reporting packages for Business Unit and Finance management teams, Focus report if applicable, portions of SEC filings, committees and meetings, and Regulatory filings.

- Manage the  in the preparation of financial analysis related to the monthly results of above Business Unit entities.

- Work with the Business Unit Managers to monitor budgets, financial performance, cash inflows and outflows of above entities to ensure adequate funding at all times.

- Research technical accounting issues with outside service providers and internal team as needed.

- Monitors Reg W transactions between the Bank and above entities that are affiliates of the Bank.

- Monitor compliance with approved policies and procedures, as well as recommend and implement changes to policies or establish new procedures to promote an effective internal control environment.

- Review all significant general ledger accounts, including accruals and prepaid accounts, at the end of the year to ensure completeness and accuracy of the annual financial statements.

- Interact with public accounting firms, internal auditors, and regulatory auditors and provide them with the appropriate information and support.

- Contribute to special accounting and finance related projects as assigned.

- As appropriate, build accounting team to scale with growth in assigned entities.- Cross-train with the other Business Unit Controllers as needed

Job Requirements:


Requirements include:

- Accounting degree or Finance degree with accounting work experience required

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting preferred

- Series 27 license a plus

- 8-10+ years of related professional experience, with increasing levels of responsibilities

- Experience in financial services industry preferred.

- Strong technical/GAAP experience, especially with FAS52, revenue recognition and the preparation of audited financial statements.

- BU Controller must show ability to communicate directly and work effectively in a complex work environment, including the ability to interact well with a variety of constituencies (auditors, office personnel, corporate executives)

- Ability to multi-task and balance priorities while also focusing on bringing projects to completion

- Experience with various accounting software systems and exposure to system implementation preferred

- Strong work ethic, initiative and attention to detail

- Prior experience supervising staff- Good written and verbal communication skills and a friendly, service-oriented attitude
