Director, State Tax Planning

- Responsible for state and local tax planning and research on transactions that impact Capital One
- Advise Treasury, Finance, and Legal departments, as well as various business lines of the state and local tax implications on implementation of corporate planning strategies
- Identify tax planning strategies to lower the effective tax rate
- Identify emerging state tax issues and potential impact to Capital One
- Provide tax information and respond to questions generated from internal Capital One departments
- Manage tax planning projects and staff resources in order to achieve targeted goals
- Report to the Vice President, Tax Planning

Required Skills:
Required
- BS in Accounting or a JD
- 4-10 years corporate tax experience in a CPA firm and/or major corporation
- Strong analytical skills (experience garnered in an accounting, planning or forecasting role)
- The ability to work independently, develop new ideas, create flexibility and take ownership of responsibilities
- Excellent communication, research, and writing skills
- Flexibility with respect to occasional day travel to Richmond, VA and other company sites as needed

Preferred
- CPA or MS in Tax
- Experience in state taxation of financial institutions
