POSITION TITLE:
Budget Technician/Specialist I
REPORTS TO:
Director of Budgetary Services
OBJECTIVE:
Assist in the creation of budget documents and forms for use by schools, departments and grants; create other user friendly reports from raw data imported from the financial system in order to perform analysis; assist in the preparation of journal entries and budget transfers; and perform other special projects for the Director of Budgetary Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Create forms (excel and word documents) used by schools, departments and grants to request budgets, allocate additional resources and submit requests by importing data from the District?s general ledger, payroll and other systems. Provide assistance in preparation of journal entries, budget transfers and generating financial reports. Import / export raw data from computer systems and organize raw data into user friendly reports/forms.Assist other Finance Department staff with the identification and review of inefficient or manual budget processes that can be automated and/or streamlined.  Assist in the preparation of the Proposed, Adopted and Amended budgets and other Budget Office documents.Assist schools in the development of their budget requests.Analyze and process school and department budget development requests for financial system posting.Review and process school, department and grant budget transfer requests.Provide support assistance for approval of full-time and part-time job requisitions.Assist in the budget review process for the mid-year General Fund school and department budget reviews by Budget Office staff.Assist with the maintenance of the budget website by converting documents from Excel and/or Word to Adobe Acrobat.Assume additional responsibilities, task and duties as determined by the Director of Budgetary Services.

EDUCATION /EXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree in business administration, accounting or related area with special study in finance preferred.  Minimum two (2) years general business experience.  Advanced skills necessary in Microsoft Excel, including subtotals, macros, formulas, linking, pivot tables, etc.  Demonstrated proficiency with financial accounting software packages and personal computer Microsoft Office products (excel, word, power point).  Must be knowledgeable in governmental accounting.  Prefer to be knowledgeable in school district business and financial practices and procedures.


PERFORMANCE: Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills. Possess strong analytical skills.  Performance is limited to the scope of essential duties and responsibilities.
