Financial Planning Specialist II - Wealth Management

Primary Purpose:
Actively engage in the sale, production, and delivery of fee-based financial planning services to new and existing BB&T clients (business owners, corporate executives, and other professionals) in a specified geographic area. Utilize the services of colleagues in BB&T's Banking Network, Wealth Management, Asset Management, Scott & Stringfellow, Investment Services, Insurance Services, and other BB&T subsidiaries for implementation of financial planning recommendations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other Duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Market fee-based financial planning services using established procedures, methods, and practices. Perform data input and generate planning document(s) and recommendations. Recognize financial planning and product implementation opportunities and communicate them to appropriate Wealth Management team members during plan delivery.
2. Prioritize and manage workload based on established goals for completion of planning engagements. Communicate status of work by using the Financial Planning Production Report.
3. Make suggestions to WMFP Manager for changes and/or enhancements that will better assure quality service and smooth delivery of WMFP services.
4. Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on personal financial issues, regulations, investment philosophies, and planning techniques in order to provide the best possible advice to our BB&T clients.
5. Enroll in course of study to acquire professional credential such as CFP, CPA, ChFC or other related designation. If already acquired, maintain professional designation(s) and continuing education credits by attending budgeted C.E. meetings and seminars. Summarize and share professional education experiences during weekly WMFP conference calls.
6. Research details of various planning techniques and products available to Wealth Management clients. Communicate findings to WM team members.
7. Attend and participate in weekly WMFP sales, administrative, and continuing education conference calls. Share experiences, insight, and thoughts related to WM financial planning process.
8. Maintain organized, efficient client files with minimal excess information; properly dispose of outdated paper-based and electronic-based information.
9. Determine most appropriate software tools and informational support in order to illustrate planning strategies and techniques effectively to BB&T clients.
10. Work closely with Leadership Development Program (LDP) and summer internship personnel to demonstrate execution of Financial Planning Specialist duties and responsibilities. Oversee activities of LDP and internship personnel as they relate to financial planning during their time with the Planning Specialist's Wealth Management team.
11. Encourage and maintain excellent working relationships with attorneys, accountants, and other advisors to assure quality administration and increased business opportunity. Represent the BB&T in civic, community, government, banking and professional groups.
12. Promote and communicate WMFP's objectives and mission to regional BB&T referral sources and external clients.
13. Utilize ProActiv client relationship management software to record sales activity, delivery of financial plans, and participation in the decathlon sales process.
14. Preserve the confidential nature of our client's personal financial data and obtain and share this data according to BB&T policies, guidelines, and ethics requirements.
15. Comply with WMFP policies and procedures as well as related bank, regulatory, and legal guidelines/requirements to ensure compliance with appropriate audit standards.
16. Assume additional responsibilities as requested by Wealth Management Team Leader and WM Financial Planning Manager.
Required Skills and Competencies:

1. Bachelor's degree in financial services-related discipline such as Business Administration, Accounting, Trust Management, Banking, or Finance or equivalent education and related training
2. Five (5) or more years work experience with demonstrated competency in area(s) of concentration.
3. Strong technical knowledge of issues relating to income tax, investments, debt management, retirement planning, employee benefits, stock options, insurance, business succession, and estate planning.
4. Strong communication and relationship management skills.
Desired Skills
1. Graduate degree in business, financial services, accounting, law, or other related discipline.
2. Proven experience with seminar selling, presentations, and public speaking.
3. Professional certification such as CPA, CFP, ChFC or other comparable designation(s).
