Summary
The Global Risk and Analysis (GRA) group is seeking someone to join our New York team to support on-going Portfolio Analysis and/or Executive Reporting efforts as a Portfolio Analyst. This individual will be responsible for providing both standard and ad hoc reporting and analytics to colleagues throughout Investment Management. Analysis will focus on performance measurement, peer group analysis, attribution and portfolio characteristics, as well as forward-looking and historical risk and style analysis.
Candidates must have a willingness and interest to continually expand their knowledge of the investment process, capital markets and all finance and economic related material, in addition to applied investment performance analysis skills. The group has a strong, team-based orientation, yet relies upon its members to take responsibility and ownership of their coverage responsibilities and client base. Thorough professionalism in all technical and non-technical aspects of the position is required of the individual selected.
Responsibilities:
? Provide day-to-day support of Portfolio Analysis coverage assignments and/or Executive Reporting.
? Responsible for performance measurement, attribution, risk, peer group analysis and reporting, and composite maintenance for assigned areas of coverage, as well as responding to ad hoc requests.
? Supply performance measurement reports to senior performance analysts on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
? Produce standard and ad hoc attribution and portfolio characteristic analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis. These will be structured according to the asset class, geographic dispersion and investment approach of each portfolio manager.
? Supply extensive peer group comparisons to senior Divisional management on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
? Create a set of quarterly peer group analysis reports based on the Frank Russell ?RPU? system. Responsible for running data, verifying and supplying information to each senior analyst.
? Incorporate evaluative risk and equity style analysis into reporting on a standard and ad hoc basis to assist the portfolio managers in determining their risk/reward ratios.
? Successful applicants will move upward over time through paths including as appropriate: writing interpretive commentary to the reports being produced; presenting reports and interpretations to senior management; and design of new reports influencing the executive decision-making process at MSIM.
Skills Required
? Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or quantitative field (mathematics, physics, engineering, etc.). MBA or masters in a quantitative field a plus.
? 1 - 3 years of relevant experience.
? Experience with asset management performance and risk systems such as Factset, Factset PA2, Factset SPAR, Style Advisor, Stylus, Northfield, BARRA, Wilshire, APT, Lipper LANA, and Morningstar Datalab/Direct, Russell RPU a plus.
? Strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills required.
? Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Access including designing, creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets, databases, queries, reports and charts.
? Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
? Highly proactive and energetic focus toward client service.
? Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
