Senior Alternative Investments Analyst

Wells Fargo Alternative Asset Management, LLC, is a Registered Investment Advisor affiliate of Wells Fargo & Company. We are seeking a bright, self-motivated individual to join our investments team, providing investment research and analysis to our Alternative Investment and Ultra High Net Worth teams.  You will be part of a small, entrepreneurial team providing investment research, analysis, and recommendations to various lines of business serving high net worth individuals. 

 

The candidate will be responsible for identifying, screening, analyzing, performing due diligence, and formulating investment recommendations regarding investments into hedge funds and other alternative managers, as well as traditional long-only separate account managers.  

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

 

?MANAGER RESEARCH:  Proven ability to identify existing and emerging managers worthy of investigation through referrals, industry contacts, active networking, specialized publications, database screening, etc.  Fluency with various investment databases and performance reporting software. Established network of institutional relationships is preferable. 

 

?DUE DILIGENCE: Substantial experience performing on-site due diligence with long-only as well as hedge fund managers. Strong quantitative skills.  Ability to examine models, data, and strategies in a multi-dimensional way considering a variety of investment concepts.  Well-versed in quantitative analysis to examine a manager?s stated and actual investment strategy.  Knowledge of performance methodology, attribution analysis, and absolute return performance metrics.  Ability to assess a firm?s investment process, operational and risk controls, organizational structure, and portfolio management team to determine a firm?s ability to sustain favorable long term performance.

 

?INVESTMENT CONCEPTS:  Thorough knowledge of equities, fixed income, alternatives, structured products, and derivatives investments.  Detailed understanding of hedge fund strategies, techniques, and indices.

 

?INVESTMENT STRUCTURES: Working knowledge of private placement investment vehicles including understanding of private placement exemptions and basic on-shore and offshore investment structures.  Familiarity with separate account structures.

 

?INTERPERSONAL: A high level of personal and professional credibility based on a successful track record as a proven leader in the investment management industry.  Ability to take a leadership role while working with colleagues and clients with a high level of diplomacy. Demonstrated ability to work with high net worth clients.  

 

?CLIENT INTERFACE:  Proven ability to interface with sophisticated high net worth clients and present to small groups. 

 

?WORKING STYLE: Sound qualitative judgment. Able to produce consistent results and manage tight deadlines.  Self-starter, able to work with a high degree of independence.  Capable of troubleshooting new issues and interfacing with internal clients with confidence.

 

?EDUCATION:  An undergraduate degree in business, economics, finance, statistics, engineering or related field.  A graduate degree in business and/or CFA designation is strongly preferred. 

 

?WORK EXPERIENCE:  Minimum 5 years of direct investment industry experience.  Minimum of 2-3 years experience in the hedge fund industry
