Senior Director of Federal and State Income Taxes

The Senior Director of Federal and State Income Taxes will be responsible for the preparation of all federal and state income tax returns as well as supporting the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions in the Company?s financial reports. This individual should be familiar with the federal tax implications of international companies and be able to interface with peer positions both domestically and internationally. In addition, they will have responsibility for managing and resolving all income tax audits, as well as developing and supporting tax planning initiatives. The Senior Director will supervise a staff of approximately 5 to 7  employees, as well as manage certain outsourced compliance functions.  They should demonstrate leadership ability within their team, across the tax function and broadly across the MeadWestvaco business structure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide the leadership to ensure the proper levels of support for and the involvement of the business units and corporate functional areas for all federal tax matters

- Direct the preparation of federal and state income tax returns and associated analytical documents related to FAS 109 and Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirements.

- Establish strong communication channels with Corporate Controller?s Office to ensure timely and consistent tax return reporting.

- Ensure the accuracy of all tax related research and data.

- Assist with Internal Revenue Service audits as required.

- Develop the tax department staff through delegation of challenging assignments, coaching, appropriate training and by establishing the highest levels of expectations for each staff member

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor?s degree required.

- 10- 15 years experience; preferably a CPA with public accounting experience, as well as  multi-national corporate experience.

- Knowledge of and experience in FAS 109 and Sarbanes ? Oxley requirements..

- Experience with CorpTax software and SAP preferred.

- Strong communications skills.

- Detailed and analytical in nature with the ability to diligently pursue tax related data.

- High ethical standards combined with demonstrated ability to act as an ambassador of the company.

- Extensive experience working with senior leaders of business units and/or multi-business functions in the strategy, design, development and execution of tax initiatives.
