Position Description:

Chevron Corporation(CORP) is accepting online applications for an Senior Tax Analyst(060550095738) located in San Ramon through September 30, 2006.

These positions are part of the Chevron Corporation Tax Department Tax Analyst Career Ladder. External job applicants should have at least 7 - 10 years of Federal income tax experience. Candidates are expected to have knowledge of and experience with general U.S. income tax principles. Tax accounting experience, particularly FAS 109, would be a plus.

The successful candidates could work in either the Asset Management group, the Domestic Tax Compliance group, or the International Tax Compliance group. Assignments could include preparing monthly and quarterly estimated tax payments; analyzing and reviewing monthly accounting information for various branches, divisions and corporations; preparing tax workpapers for various branches, divisions and corporations; preparing Federal income tax and Partnership tax returns; obtaining and analyzing data needed to respond to inquiries from the Internal Revenue Service; and learning the operations and business of Chevron's operating companies and departments by developing a partnership with both finance and operating personnel. An assignment to a specific group will be made after a candidate is selected and will be based on the Tax Department's business needs and the skills and experience of the individual selected. It is a practice in the Tax Department to periodically rotate Tax Analysts between groups as part of the Analyst's career development.
SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor?s degree required & Master?s preferred in Accounting, Tax & Finance.

Qualifications:

- Prepare accurate, well documented and organized tax workpapers.

- Develop analyses to determine the tax costs/savings and tax planning opportunities of proposed transactions.

- Look for tax planning opportunities to lower tax costs.

- Develop and implement systems and procedural changes to improve the tax compliance and audit processes.

- Act as the Tax Compliance contact with Chevron Departmental and OPCO groups.

- Support Tax Planning and Tax Legal in resolving audit, compliance, planning and legislative issues.

- Look for opportunities to promote effective involvement with co-workers and Chevron Departmental and OPCO groups.

- Demonstrate skills to comprehend tax and business issues affecting tax results.

- Use SAP, JDE, Hyperion, etc. for analysis, asset tracking and reporting.

- Use CORPTax software for analysis and return preparation.

- Use Lotus Notes for tax data warehousing.

- ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEM SOLVING: Ability to interpret tax laws and regulations (U.S. and foreign); thoroughly analyze data; and identify problem areas and logically work through them. Ability to develop effective alternatives and strategies.

- TEAMWORK AND PEOPLE SKILLS: Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, tax auditors and peers. Ability to lead teams. Ability to work with all levels within ChevronTexaco.

- COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, Lotus Notes, or comparable products and applications is required. Safe, dependable work habits desired (i.e. ergo conscious). CORPTax/CORPInternational experience is a plus.

- ACCOUNTING KNOWLEDGE: General accounting knowledge is required and SAP experience is a plus.

- PLANNING / ORGANIZING: Ability to organize various assignments and deal with changing priorities. Ability to set priorities based on business needs. Ability to work independently and maintain high levels of productivity is required.

- TAX KNOWLEDGE: A thorough understanding of U.S. income tax principles.

- COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner (both oral and written).

- LEADERSHIP / INITIATIVE: Ability and willingness to take a leadership role in resolving issues. Job requires a high ethical standard.
