Senior Tax Analyst, Sales, Use and Property Taxes
The Senior Tax Analyst, Sales, Use and Property Taxes will be responsible for the coordination of the sales, use and property tax compliance filing requirements that has been outsourced, as well as assisting in ensuring compliance with SOX 404 requirements, including review of account reconciliations. This individual should also be capable of providing innovative tax planning ideas and successfully assist in resolving sales and use tax audits. They should demonstrate leadership ability and be able to closely interact with their team, across the tax function and broadly across the MeadWestvaco business structure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure proper coordination with third party vendors that all sales, use and property tax reporting and compliance requirements and Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirements are met.
- Propose, develop and assist in implementing tax planning strategies to achieve desired tax and operational objectives.
- Assist in resolving all state and local sales, use and property tax audits.
- Coordinate with EIS IT solutions to tax issues, as
well as reviewing and assisting in any SAP implementation.
- Respond to questions regarding taxability of products and services; proper tax coding; direct pay permit matters and exemption certificates.
- Develop process improvements regarding streamlining data collection and reporting, and the overall tax compliance process to assist in the outsourced compliance function.
- Assist in reviewing and analyzing tax legislative proposals for tax implications and communicate to appropriate levels in the Company.
- Research state and local tax laws
- Interact with outside consultants to develop new best practice process improvements, as well as tax strategies.
- Provide internal tax training guidelines and updates to ensure proper implementation by Global Business Services group.
- Responsible for assisting in supporting the adequacy of tax account reconciliations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor?s degree required.
- 6 - 10 years experience; preferably with public accounting experience, as well as multi-state corporate experience.
- Experience with SAP preferred.
- Strong communications skills.
- Team player
- Detailed and analytical in nature with the ability to diligently pursue tax related data.
- High ethical standards combined with demonstrated ability to act as an ambassador of the company.
- Maintain active communication with business unit and corporate finance staff to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, make sure deadlines are met and lead change efforts effectively.
