Job Title: Software Manager/Principal Engineer



Reports to: Senior Director, Technology

Direct Reports: Project Lead, Senior Software Engineer, Software Engineer



General Summary:

Manage and provide technical leadership to a team of software engineers who architect, design, implement, and maintain software applications for the Financial Market Industry.

Key Responsibilities:

? Manage, train, and provide technical guidance to developers.

? Hands-on implementation as well as technical leadership, as required to get

results.

? Lead the group in continual improvement of development practices and capability.

? Lead testability improvements to realize more effective engineering and QA.

? Work with business to prioritize and properly specify enhancements and new

development.

? Work with the QA group to ensure quality testing focused on high-risk areas.

? Lead effective assessment and management of risk during change.

? Manage delivery of projects and components.

? Supervise the analysis and design of the project or sub-system.

? Prepare plans and schedules. Monitor the schedule on a continuous basis.

? Evaluate product requirement and develop detailed specifications.

? Research problems, recommend solution and manage the changes required.

? Coordinate infrastructure layout, network design, Capacity Planning and Capacity

Management.

? Address client support inquiries as required.

? Adhere to and improve the software development standards.

? Manage multiple projects with competing priorities.

? Supervise system testing and implementation in coordination with the QA team.

? Run code reviews and walkthroughs of projects as required.

? Assign work to developers and co-ordinate their activities.

? Assist in recruitment process.

? Manage remote staff as needed.

Job Specifications:

? Experience with real-time market data highly desired.

? Well-versed in current software technologies.

? Excellent analytic skills.

? Strong understanding of the software development practices required for

successful projects and reliable/maintainable systems.

? 5+ years as team leader/manager, with 3+ years leading or managing a development

team.

? 5+ years of experience in real-time programming concepts and techniques.

? Strong software design and architecture skills on Linux/Unix.

? 5+ years experience C/C++, Java, Enterprise Development Tools and Technologies.

? 5+ years of experience in TCP/IP, UDP and other network protocols.

? Demonstrated leadership skills.

? Solid understanding of the development life cycle including analysis, design,

design-for-testability, implementation, and testing.

? Project Management skills with 2+ years of experience in Microsoft Project.

? Effective verbal and written communication skills.

? Well organized. Detail and Process oriented.

? BS/MS in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent experience.

? At least 10 years industry experience.
