Underwriter

Verus Card Services (VCS), a division of sage Software, an experienced company in the payment processing industry, is seeking an Underwriter for its Merchant Underwriting Department to coordinate the underwriting of merchant applications according to the Company?s underwriting guidelines.  This position is located in the Company?s headquarters in McLean, VA.

Our product is diverse and includes any business that accepts non-cash forms of payment ? credit, debit, check, etc. VCS provides excellent products and services to all types of businesses, including retail, mail order/telephone order, and Internet. Potential customers will also include hundreds of thousands of new businesses that open each year.

Position Responsibilities: As a member of the Merchant Underwriting Department, you will be part of our corporate office?s Risk and Underwriting Division. Duties include, but are not limited to:
 - Verifying merchant application information submitted through the CNet database.  Where provided required information is not provided, will coordinate the collection of this data.

- Handling inquiries and escalated calls form sales groups and/or merchants with underwriting concerns or appeal requests.

- Managing multiple applications and ensuring timely and accurate completion.

- Underwriting merchant accounts based upon Verus Underwriting Policies and Procedures.

- Entering merchants into the ?watch list? for risk, according to the company fraud and credit loss process.

- Serving on the Underwriting training/documents team to maintain our forms, processes and training documentation.

- Working on the daily pended accounts report to ensure all pended accounts are updated appropriately when documentation requirement are met.  Ensuring that the pended report is kept current (no more than 2 days old).

- Performing re-evaluation based upon the Verus Underwriting Guidelines for merchants requesting an increased volume and/or average ticket.

- Streamlining reporting procedures.

- Ensuring daily ACH payments from merchants and sales groups are keyed into production database and processed correctly.

- Resolving escalated customer and partner underwriting issues.

- Developing policies and procedures between the Company and sales groups to improve partnering and communications relationships.

- Providing monthly appraisals of sales partners and regular (daily) feedback to all department associates including sales, relationship management, risk, merchant accounting and client services.

Qualifications for Employment:
- High School diploma or equivalent; preferred Bachelor?s Degree in Business Administration or similar major.
- 2 to 4 years underwriting experience in bankcard industry or similar field.
- Industry knowledge desired, but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret the Credit Bureaus, Dunn & Bradstreet reports, financial statements, and tax returns
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and electronic mail.
- Flexible and open to change.
- Strong decision-making skills.

- Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
