Unix Solaris Sys Admin.
Responsibilities: -Provides UNIX System Administration support and capacity planning for UNIX-based systems (e.g. SunFire Enterprise servers including E25K running with Solaris 2.9 and above, and SuSE on z/Linux).
-Performs UNIX system hardware and software installs, patch installations, upgrades and maintenance.
-Develops effective and efficient hardware and network configurations.
-Monitors and maintains kernel/OS performance tuning of UNIX systems.
-Performs daily administration tasks (e.g. add, change, delete, file system and disk space management, backups and file restores).
-Provides architectural guidance on standards and procedures for the efficient use of resources, and consulting in software and hardware acquisition.
-Develops, documents and implements policy, standards and operating procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
-Interacts with DP, other systems staff or vendors in complex testing, operational support and troubleshoots system problems.
-Coordinates and performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance (e.g. system IPL, apply fixes).
-Provides production and development systems support (including off-hours support on a rotating basis).
The candidate MUST have the following skills and experience:
-Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and problem solving skills.
-Minimum 5 years UNIX system administration experience (Solaris).
-Experience with SunFire Enterprise hardware (including E25K) and software (Solaris 2.9 and above), Veritas Foundation Suite (Volume Manager, VFS and VCS) and SAN product (HDS).
-Experience with OS installation (Jumpstart), configuration, upgrades, and securities and file system management.
-Excellent knowledge of UNIX utilities, Kron shell and Perl scripts.
-Excellent knowledge of kernel performance tuning and analysis.
-Excellent knowledge of system backup and recovery (IBM TSM), and disaster recovery.
-Strong knowledge of web (IBM WebSphere products) and RDBMS (Oracle, UDB/DB2) technologies.
-Strong knowledge on networking and distributed computing concepts, file system concepts (NFS/NIS), DNS and TCP/IP.
The follow skills/experience are a plus:
-Experience with z/Linux operating environment
-Excellent knowledge of system monitoring tools (BMC Patrol).
