Writer, fee-based/institutional communications
The writer in this new role will help carry out a strategic plan for communicating with RIAs, fee-based advisers at broker/dealer firms and insitutional clients of American Funds. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to work in a collaborative corporate environment. The writer will work closely with an investment communications manager, managers of American Funds' fee-based and institutional business, as well as members of the sales force. The writer will be expected to travel occasionally with our external sales force, interview advisers, attend conferences and participate in offsite planning meetings. The writer will interact with both retail and institutional writers from The Capital Group. He/she will be part of an LA and NY-based Investment Communications group consisting of writers, desginers, production specialists and copy editors who specialize in both retail and fee-based/ institutional adviser communications. Writing projects will run the gamut from brochures and "flip books" to white papers, fund and market commentary, portfolio counselor interviews, articles, ads, letters and e-mail communications. The writer should have previous experience with this market segment and be comfortable using a variety of analytical programs and tools. He/she may also develop web content for these audiences.
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional writing experience
- Financial services business background (asset management or broker dealer or institutional business related experience)
- Experience writing to a financially sophisticated audience about qualitative and quantitative topics and concepts
- MBA or finance background preferred
- An ability to write about complex concepts in an interesting and engaging style for advisers
- Solid editing and project management experience
- An ability to juggle multiple projects and adjust to changes in workflow
- Experience working with a cross functional team
- Must be self-motivated and inquisitive, with a desire to work in a collaborative team atmosphere
