Casual City Letter Carrier

CASUAL LETTER CARRIER POSITIONS - $14.00 PER HOUR

Available in the Boston District which includes towns with Zip Codes beginning with 021, 022, 024.These positions will be filled in August and will provide the opportunity to work as a Casual Letter Carrier through the end of calendar year 2006 with the possibility of employment through June 2007.

 

Casual positions:

After completing 180 days of employment as a casual, the employee can request to take two entrance examinations for any register used to fill career positions in their district. The request must be made in writing while the employee is still actively employed as a casual. Passing scores will be placed on the appropriate registers in accordance with competitive selection procedures. Casual positions are temporary and are not career positions. Casual appointments are limited to two 90 day appointments in a calendar year and 21 days during the Christmas holiday season.

 

Job Description:

Casual Letter Carriers deliver and collect mail on foot or by vehicle providing customer service. They work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Carriers may be required to carry mailbags on their shoulders that can weigh up to 35 pounds. Carriers have to load and unload sacks of mail and parcels weighing as much as 70 pounds. Duties require prolonged standing, walking, and reaching.

 

Work Hours:

May be required to work weekends, and should be available for work between 6 a.m. and 6p.m.

 

Salary:

$14.00 per hour
