 ENTRY CLEARANCE OFFICER

 

Applications are invited for the position of Entry Clearance Officer in the Visa Section. The successful candidate will be offered an open letter of appointment.

 BACKGROUND

The Visa and Consular Sections of the Consulate-General deal with entry clearance applications for the UK and Overseas Territories under the supervision of the HM Consul/Director of US Visa Issuing Posts.

 ORGANISATIONAL POSITION

The Post Holders reports to an Entry Clearance Manager. 

 

MAIN DUTIES

Processing Entry Clearance (EC) applications under the supervision of the Entry Clearance Manager and answering EC related enquiries.

The ECO is expected to process mailed and personal applications and make balanced decisions in accordance with the Immigration Rules.

The ECO must be willing to refuse applications when appropriate and identify counterfeit documents and bogus applications.

The ECO is expected to have a sound knowledge of UK Immigration Law and process applications within specific time scales.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential qualities are courtesy, patience and tolerance towards persons of all nationalities with varying fluency in English, an ability to work quickly, efficiently and methodically as part of a team often under pressure. Candidates should have strong drafting skills, a good telephone manner and speak clear English.  Previous experience in Entry Clearance work would be an advantage.

 

Appointment will be confirmed subject to receipt of positive references and successful security clearance. 

 

All candidates must have existing eligibility to work in the United States.
