JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Grants Information Specialist  Bethesda, MD

 

Required Knowledge and Expertise:

 

?  BA/BS with at least 2-5 years experience

 

?  Computer Literacy, including skill with word processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with database software, MS Office; SQL

 

?  Ability to prioritize tasks, organize information and meet deadlines;

 

?  Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

 

 

Tasks:

 Responds to GrantsInfo email, telephone, fax, surface mail, and visitor requests and inquiries for information about the NIH extramural research and research training programs.

 Determines the most appropriate response to each inquiry, answering immediately and completely, obtains more information before responding if necessary, and/or refers the inquirer to the appropriate NIH staff person who could provide additional assistance.

 Enters all incoming and outgoing responses into Remedy Database Tracking System, as received, and follows up on outstanding requests for information or additional guidance within three days.

 Monitors and reviews the weekly listings of the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts for new and revised funding policies and guidelines.

 Provides printed and electronic editions of information pertaining to grant-related topics to requestors from the biomedical and behavioral research community, institutional grant administrators, NIH and DHHS staff, other Federal agencies, Congress, business organizations, and others interested in the NIH extramural programs.

 Assists with preparation of documents for NIH outreach workshops, seminars or scientific exhibits.  Gathers and duplicates outreach materials.

 Attends and participates in NIH Staff meetings for information exchange, planning and evaluation, and to keep abreast of grant-related issues and policies.

 

Skills:

 

Knowledge of NIH extramural funding mechanisms PHS Grants Instructions and Forms, and their operation within the Institutes and Centers.

 

Knowledge of the relationship of NIH training and research programs to similar programs in other agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services.

 

Knowledge in computer applications and Internet technology are required.  Resourcefulness is required in locating technical scientific material, interpreting guides, and using or modifying procedures.

 

Knowledge of report preparation, formatting, grammar, spelling, punctuation is required and a demonstration of oral communication skills.

 

Ability to communicate clearly and in a professional manner with requesters.

 

Ability to set priorities to meet established deadlines coordinates work flow with other staff, and act independently within areas of responsibility.

 

Ability to contribute to and help maintain the type of respectful and communicative work environment that is necessary for the successful accomplishment of interactive and interdependent projects and services.
