Senior Systems Engineer

Alion Science and Technology is seeking a lead Communications Systems Engineer to support various projects at the PM-NED JTRS Office in Roslyn, Va.

 

Key Function:  Provide communications systems engineering support on programs such as the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). Develop and analyze requirements, conduct system level and component level trade studies, specify radio frequency (RF) communications performance and interfaces, and advise on technology investments. Review and assess contractor designs for software-programmable radios. Conduct trade studies on alternative radio/system design approaches. Develop technical white papers and briefings on JTRS design and development issues. Participate or lead technical interchange meetings and government-led studies.

 

Required Education/Experience:  BS or equivalent and 5 years of related experience or MS or equivalent and 3 years of related experience or PhD and 1 year of related experience

 

Desired Education/Experience:  Seeking BS or equivalent in electrical engineering, mathematics, or physics with 5+ years experience in analysis, design, or development of digital communications systems. Requires experience in digital communications theory, detection and estimation theory, RF modulation techniques, military radio design and development, software-programmable radio design, error correction coding, spread spectrum techniques, and multiple access techniques, MS preferred. 7-10 years experience in analysis, design of development of digital communications systems preferred.

 

Required Skills:  Requires technical skills to understand and analyze communications problems and trades. Requires ability to place results of technical studies into a systems engineering context. Excellent interpersonal skills required for interaction with customers, project leaders, team members, and government agencies. Proficiency in written communications skills also required.

 

Travel:  This position will require overnight travel up to 20 % of the time.
