Accountant

JOB SUMMARY 

This job is responsible for performing professional accounting work that requires the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles and standards to the financial activities of Franciscan Health Systems (FHS) in accordance with internal policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.  Work involves performing various routine to intermediate-level accounting transactions for the financial reporting of hospitals and other entities as assigned, including month-end and year-end accounting close, variance review, financial statement audits, tax reporting, and special projects.

An employee independently plans and carries out the work in conformance with accepted accounting practices, adhering to internal policies, and guidelines in exercising judgment to resolve commonly encountered work problems and deviations.  Work requires a degree of accounting knowledge sufficient to work independently using conventional procedures and practices that are applicable to most situations encountered.

 Plans and carries out all professional accounting activities associated with the timely, efficient and accurate month-end and year-end closing of the General Ledger (G/L) for the assigned FHS entity; ensures that processes, work products and materials comply with applicable internal standards and procedures and regulatory requirements; ensures assigned G/L accounts and reports accurately reflect the financial position of the assigned work function, program or facility.Prepares and posts standard and miscellaneous journal entries; posts various (ie. Accounts Payable, Material Management etc.) interfaces; reviews financial statements to assure completeness and accuracy; reconciles accounts, executes adjustments and prepares financial statements; prepares miscellaneous billings; inputs financial statements and related information into consolidation template and prepares eliminating entries.Checks data and compares reports or transactions to source documents, or authorizations against transactions to ensure their acceptability for further processing or other action; analyzes financial data and prepares detailed financial reports, statements and projections. Maintains and reconciles financial control records for expenditures, allotments, receipts, encumbrances and related accounts; may prepare, audit and/or edit reports of costs and other financial summaries and statements; may check disbursements for adherence to contractual obligations.

 

Education/Work Experience Requirements

 

Bachelor?s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field, and two years of progressively responsible related work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.

An equivalent combination of additional qualifying work experience and education may be substituted for two years of the degree requirement.
