Manager, Medicare Cost Reporting
Sava Senior Care, a leader in the long-term industry, seeks a Manager, Medicare Cost Reporting to join our Shared Services Center in Houston, TX.
Job Summary:
Manages Sava Senior Care?s Medicare cost reporting function and monitors the implementation and maintenance of Medicare reimbursement processes within the company. Responsible for recommendations of Medicare reserves, for negotiating audit adjustments with governmental auditors, for advising home office cost report strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuously evaluates and updates the cost reporting functions for Medicare reimbursement due to changes in the laws, policies, and procedures of government and private payer health plans, fraud and abuse alerts and other developments and/or needs of Sava Senior Care.
Ensures that policies and procedures are continuously reviewed and/or developed, implemented and maintained. Monitors federal regulations and legislation, and ensures compliance throughout the organization.
Coordinates implementation of applicable changes in Medicare reimbursement methodologies to the company?s financial reporting systems.
Perform preparation and review of individual provider Medicare cost reports to ensure accuracy, timeliness and consistency.
Responsible for complete preparation of Medicare and Medicaid (where required) home office cost reports in accordance with federal and state standards. Will require coordinating with multiple field support departments to ensure accuracy of information submitted on reports. Must have state specific knowledge of Medicaid home office cost reports concepts.
Identify and implement home office cost reporting strategies to appropriately and legally maximize reimbursement opportunities at the state level.
Review and approve journal entries to properly account for financial implication of Medicare cost reporting including entries needed when cost reports are filed and cost reports are settled. Assess adequacy of Medicare cost report receivable reserves and adjust accordingly. Review of Medicare cost report receivable balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of balances to external and internal auditors.
Responsible for reviewing cost report status log maintained by analysts.
In collaboration with General Accounting, Accounting Systems, and Reimbursement, develop unique trees in PeopleSoft to accommodate automated filing of cost reports. Once implemented, will also be responsible for ensuring maintenance has been performed for any newly added accounts in PeopleSoft.
Develops, coordinates, and facilitates multi-faceted educational and training program that focuses on the elements of all Reimbursement Programs and seeks to ensure all appropriate management and personnel are knowledgeable of and comply with pertinent federal and state standards.
Collaborates with regional and corporate financial management to ensure each financial unit coordinates with internal compliance reviews and follows monitoring activities, including annual or periodic department reviews.
Coordinates with appropriate management responsible for other regulatory issues to minimize duplication of effort while ensuring adequacy of coverage.
In collaboration with Director of Reimbursement, manages relationships with Medicare auditors to coordinate audits and responses ensuring compliance with all applicable federal regulators.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills. Proficient in the use of a personal computer with intermediate level keyboarding, MS Excel, MS Word, and other MS Office skills. Strong interpersonal skills in the areas of verbal and written communications, customer focus, telephone courtesy, professionalism, coaching, and team building. Strong listening, assessment, questioning, and problem-solving skills.
Experience:
Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Admin required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
Three (3) years supervisory experience and five (5) years reimbursement and general accounting experience required.
Three (3) or more years experience with Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reporting preferred.
