PATIENT ACCT REP-FOLLOWUP
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
To follow-up on all third party payer accounts in a timely and accurate manner. To aid in the maintaining of adequate cash flow for each Iowa Health System medical center. Billing of patient account receivables and handling of problems pertaining to such billings. Functions should be handled in a manner that promotes a favorable public image for Iowa Health System affiliates and maintains adequate cash flow. All billing should be done in a manner that follows all compliance standards.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Experience:
* 10 key calculator skills required.
* Ability to type 30 WPM.
* Ability to read, speak, and write fluent English.
* Data entry experience preferred.
* Previous experience with filing of medical insurance claims preferred.
* Familiarity with computers (Microsoft Office applications) preferred.
* General office experience desirable.
* Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
* Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
Education:
* High School graduate or equivalent.

* Exercises sound judgment, seeking advice when appropriate.
* Ability to objectively analyze situations and provide suitable alternatives and resolutions.

Physical Demands:
* Sit, walk, stand, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop and kneel. Good manual dexterity, using hands for computer applications and writing. Ability to move about the Iowa Health System campuses and regularly tour the various areas of the department in any type of weather. Must be able to see and hear. Motor coordination is essential for operating office equipment and computer systems. Must be able to communicate effectively by telephone.
Working Conditions:
* Normal office surroundings.
* Well-lit, properly ventilated facility with adequate space for work material. Heating/ventilation system is often not controllable and can result in some discomfort.
* Office machines operated are: PC (Windows, Excel, Word and Lastword), Typewriter, Adding Machine, Copy Machine, Microfiche Reader/Printer or others.
* Precautions must be followed when working in any healthcare environment area.
* OSHA Risk Factor - Category III - Normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues (although situations can be imagined under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Persons who perform these duties are not called upon in part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care for first aid to be potentially exposed in some other way.
