caretaker. wheelchairbound 55 yr old psychiatrist needs about 3 hrs/morning home help, and driving.

CARETAKER/ASSISTANT/DRIVER

 

wheelchair bound, and with some other disabilities including trouble speaking (but usually understandable) and occasional tremor. accident 3 years ago. cognitively intact. Would like candidate to start with mostly home health aid (help with light housekeeping [have cleaning service weekly], occasional showers [almost independent here, but have trouble balancing myself], medication help, shopping, laundry [also have some services], help with exercises [like walking in walker and isometric stuff], emptying bedside urinals and making/changing bed, some dishes [only breakfast and snacks dishes], help with mixing water with thickener for swallowing difficulty [not a problem except for thin liquids].

Just moved here to nice 3 bedroom with balcony. Live-in with room and board is an option. (two bathrooms, and extra room).

IF the candidate is interested, would like to move toward more of a business assistant role with more hours and possibly more pay.

After i get settled in (just moved and am not entirely unpacked yet) and my health is optimized, i would like to re-establishing psychiatry practice in neuro-biofeedback (for ADD and other conditions). Easy to learn how to do -- i used to have clinic.

May do e-bay type business instead. Right now need to get organized and stronger (have good in-home therapists -- incidentally they will leave and i may need help continuing required therapy [isometrics, etc.]).

 

Ideal candidate will have experience caretaking, e.g. in assisted living facility. 

Will need to find backup for days off. I can help or hire service to cover if necessary, although would prefer candidate come with backup.

Was paying 14$/hour plus help with driving (usually 25 cents per mile).

Most things are negotiable. Would prefer someone who is reasonably intelligent (college degree preferred but not necessary) who is social and can provide company. Am writing  book and have computer, light organ, music, and macro photography hobbies. All of which i will probably need some help with, but am happy to train any skills necessary.

Should be an interesting job, for a good caretaker who is interested in possibility of something more.

May have more hours and better pay if book/biofeedback/e-bay things work out.

Right now settling in and getting organized are the priorities. Sometimes i need more help if i am not feeling well, but generally i can do all ADLs (activities of daily living) although some help is appreciated, especially if I am in a hurry.

I can be temperamental (usually only when sick or provoked), and in general try to be a sensitive and considerate boss. Like i was when i had my clinic.

Ability to laugh and encourage are good features.

Have worked well with both males and females of all ages and treat worker as i treated nurses when i was active doctor -- respectfully and sensitively as a fellow professional. I expect the same of course.

 

References would be good. Would like to interview, or come for trial day, as i would like to find someone soon.
