ARNP-Cardiothoracic Surgery

The ARNP is responsible for ensuring that all Cardiothoracic Surgery patients receive quality care and comprehensive services.  Job tasks and responsibilities include:
 
o Coordinates patient care throughout the continuum in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
o Performs direct patient care, physical assessments and consults with staff and physicians regarding findings or changes in patient condition.
o Assists nursing and medicine with diagnostic tests and procedures as needed.
o Serves as a clinical resource person with an expertise in Cardiothoracic Surgery interventions and care management for all areas caring for cardiac patients.
o Serves as a liaison throughout the facility and the community regarding services provided to this population.
o Promotes and develops new programs and is accountable for the provision of cardiothoracic care in the facility.
o Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.




Job qualifications include:
 
o Current licensure as an RN
o Evidence of state recognition as an Advanced Practice Nurse
o Masters Degree in Nursing required
o Graduate from an accredited Nursing Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner program
o Certification for Clinical Nurse Specialist (if granted after 12/31/95)
o Minimum 3 years experience in CT surgery, critical care or cardiology

? ANCC certified, preferably in Acute Care

o Frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
o Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
o Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
