The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) plays a critical Public Health role in prevention and response to outbreaks of infectious disease ? including the agents of biological terrorism.
To meet the increasing Public Health need for improved vaccines against anthrax we are seeking enthusiastic junior and senior scientists in our Microbial Pathogenesis & Immune Response Laboratory in the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch, Division of Bacterial Diseases. You will join an established and expanding team of scientists offering a range of high quality serologic tests to support Federal and private sector Phase I-III clinical trials of anthrax vaccines. You will work within a laboratory quality system applying current industry standards for laboratory practice.
All positions are funded by the Atlanta Research & Education Foundation and are for an initial period of 1 year.
Data Analyst ? One position (GS 7/9/11 equivalent)
Your primary responsibilities will be to assist in the analysis of laboratory data from a range of biological assays, and to manage the results in an existing database. You will be responsible for maintaining quality assurance activities including timeliness and completeness of reporting, and accuracy of data entry. You will work under the guidance of the Data Analysis Team leader, in close collaboration with other laboratory team leaders and the Laboratory Supervisor, to analyze raw data, prepare tables and graphs, and assist in the preparation of reports and presentations. You will be highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and within a team setting is required.
Requirements: You will have a first degree or equivalent in biological sciences, computer science, statistics, or mathematics and preferably a second degree such as MS or MPH or equivalent experience. You will have at least 1 year of hands-on experience in management and analysis of relational databases and complex spread sheets. Experience with laboratory biological assays, the statistical analysis of bioassay endpoints or the application of SAS or Access would be an advantage.
