Job Details: MLA I JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Laboratory Assistant I is responsible for a variety of phlebotomy collections on both inpatients and outpatients, specimen accessioning procedures, specimen processing procedures, referral analysis procedures, hospital/departmental computer procedures, Microbiology specimen processing procedures and departmental charting

procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma, GED, or Foreign equivalent.

Pediatric phlebotomy experience, specimen accessioning and processing under a qualified director in a full service Clinical Laboratory.

Phlebotomy Certificate or Certificate Eligible.

Effective phlebotomy techniques.

Accessioning, processing and referral procedures. Special specimen collection procedures. Medical and laboratory terminology.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work under routine and stressful situations in an accurate and timely manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Phlebotomy certificate preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent experience.

One year experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant under a qualified director in a full service Clinical Laboratory.

Phlebotomy Certificate or Certificate eligible. Effective phlebotomy techniques. Accessioning, processing and referral procedures. Special specimen collection procedures. Medical and laboratory terminology.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work under routine and stressful situations in an accurate and timely manner.

Practical and current knowledge in all appropriate laboratory disciplines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Phlebotomy certificate preferred.

Experience in a pediatric setting is preferred.
