We are currently seeking a Microbiology Lab Manager for our Irving, TX location. The Manager will have the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and staff members in the laboratory. Ultimately, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing duties so as to operate the lab with the highest quality, safety, and integrity. An efficient, economical, and businesslike manner is of the utmost importance.
Specific responsibilities include: Mentor and support direct reports (Supervisors, QA Specialists and Safety Coordinators) in their responsibilities and functions, ensuring that they receive training in supervisory skill developmentDefine, coordinate, and monitor quality assurance programs and supervise activities of the Quality Assurance SpecialistEnsure quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date; Oversee plans and preparations for inspections Effectively maintain quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling; Identify future needs in terms of staff, equipment, and facilities Review test performance, drive process and project management, and prepare and submit required reports to meet established deadlinesEnsure that departmental standard operating procedures and database accurately reflect the current processCoordinate R&D activities, as it relates to operations, and actively participate in subspecialty committees, corporate committees, and business unit committeesDevelop annual budget and manage department costs and resources to adhere to budget Resolve problems through interaction with clients via phone calls or other means of communicationDefine, coordinate, and monitor EHS programs and supervise activities of the Department Safety Coordinator to ensure EHS regulatory standards and safety procedures are followed
To qualify, one must possess:Bachelor's degree in life sciences required; Master?s degree preferred.Minimum of 6 years laboratory experience, with at least 2 years of direct supervisory experience in the clinical laboratoryKnowledge of CAP/CLIA and NCCLS Guidelines
Desirable qualifications include Familiarity with Bacteriology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Parisitology, and VirologyBlack Belt or Green Belt CertificationAbility to maintain acceptable presence on multiple working shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd.)
