Under general supervision performs laboratory support functions including but not limited to: phlebotomy of adult and pediatric patients, EKG testing, specimen accessioning and specimen processing; and laboratory clerical functions. Under general supervision performs laboratory tests. Participates on special projects with minimal supervision. Performs the technical duties of operating the laboratory computer system. May coordinate the activity of a group of technicians. May perform laboratory functions related Purchased Lab Services. Ability to operate the technical equipment and analytical systems used to perform work accurately and proficiently, and to maintain patient safety and comfort. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with co-workers, clinicians, patients and their families. Communicates with patients and their families using age-appropriate terminology and tone of voice. Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure. Level of knowledge generally obtained through completion of high school with two years of progressively more responsible laboratory experience in an accredited clinical laboratory; or an Associate's degree in Medical Technology.
