This clinical pharmacy specialist is responsible for demonstrating an expertise in a particular clinical pharmacy service line or specialty and is able to focus and serve as a resource in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients within that specialty. The clinical pharmacy specialist will also
oDevelop and implement new pharmacy practice programs and initiatives to further promote the safe and effective use of medications.
oIdentify, prevent, assess, and resolve medication-related problems.
oBuild effective relationships with other healthcare professionals and appropriate manufacturer representatives within their specialty.
oPromote clinically rational drug therapy and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of new (or expansion of existing) pharmacy practice programs, drug therapy policies, and other programs.

Education/Experience:
oB.S. or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy and a current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
oCompletion of a 1-year pharmacy practice residency, specialty residency, and/or fellowship, or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred
oCertification by Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties is strongly preferred
oExperience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems required


Knowledge/Skills:
oThorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services
oProficient in the use and application of new medications and technology
oEffective verbal and written communication skills are required
oAbility to effectively participate on an interdisciplinary team or committee
oKnowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics
oDemonstrated ability to lead a team of pharmacists and other health care professionals to review, develop, implement and monitor clinical programs, therapeutic initiatives and other drug use policies and practices
oProblem solving ability and analytical thinking required
