Job Description
Center Medical Director and Physician

I. Summary: The Center Medical Director works in coordination with the center Administrator and under the direction of the Regional Medical Director and/or the Area/Associate Medical Director to accomplish the goals of Concentra Health Services -'to deliver the highest quality, responsible occupational healthcare to business, industry and employees in an efficient, affordable, accountable manner.
II. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participates with other Center Medical Directors to provide consistent medical practice in an area/region.
a. Maintains clinical core competency
b. Performs medical assessments of center patients
c. Establishes and maintains a medically appropriate level of care for center patients
2. Responsible for the quality of care in the center.
a. Implement policies and protocols as defined by the Regional Medical Director, Medical Advisory Committee and the Chief Medical Officer
b. Monitors level of care in the center using both statistical information and chart review; may offer unsolicited medical judgment when appropriate.
c. Meets with staff physicians on a regular basis to discuss practice patterns as they relate to the Concentra philosophy.
d. Participates in and assists with in-service and continuing education programs for physicians, nurses and other personnel employed by or associated with Concentra.
e. Meets with the Regional Medical Director and/or Area/Associate Medical Director on a regular basis to discuss quality of patient care issues and review of policies, procedures and records.

3. Develop and Supervise Protocols
a. Participates with the Regional Medical Director to develop and implement 'best practice patterns' in the form of both medical protocols and process management protocols.
b. Develops implements and monitors medical surveillance protocols for client companies.

4. Supervise the Medical Staff
a. Physicians/Mid-level Practitioners
i. Conducts an orientation program for all new center physicians covering the Concentra philosophy, medical protocols and process management.
ii. Meets with the center physicians on a regular basis to discuss their practice patterns in relation to the 'best practice patterns'.

b. Therapists
i Facilitates the development of a team approach of medical care between the therapist and the physician.
ii. Works with the Area Therapy Director and/or individual therapists to implement the 'best practice patterns'.

5. Outcome Assurance
a. Work with the Director of Outcome Assurance and/or their designee to assure cases are being managed by the medical staff in an efficient and appropriate manner.

III. Operations

1. Staffing
a. Works with the Center Administrator and Regional Medical Director to establish the needed staffing level for the medical staff.
b. Participates in the hiring process for physicians, center administrators, midlevel practitioners, therapists and other center personnel before an offer for employment is extended.

2. Budgeting
a. Provides budgetary input sufficient to guarantee that medical responsibilities can be adequately met by operations.
b. Meet regularly with the Center Administrator to review the budgetary status.

3. Center Operations
a. Participates in the Center Leadership Meetings.
b. Assists the Center Administrator in orientation programs for all new center personnel, including operations.
c. Provides continuing support to the Center Administrator in facilitating efficient center operations.

4. Client Relations
a. Works with the medical staff and marketing staff to develop effective client relations.
b. Promotes, supports and engages in projects and activities which will develop or improve occupational medicine services delivered to the client.
c. Participates in the development and presentation of educational programs to the client base.
d. Participates in new business development.


5. Recruiting
a. Pursues and develops relationships with potential sources of candidates for physicians, midlevel practitioners and therapists.
b. Works with the Regional Medical Director and/or Area/Associate Medical

Board Certified or board elilgible qualified in occupational medicine. Two years of occ med preferred.
