JOB SUMMARY
The Area Medical Director would specifically be responsible for all aspects of physician leadership related to managed care, quality improvement, customer service and revenue enhancement. He or she will provide managed care and quality improvement leadership, education and coordination for local medical directors, physicians, physician assistants and other medical providers. He or she will work closely with corporate leaders including the Executive Vice President, Vice President of Managed Care and Vice President of Product Development to coordinate and execute corporate managed care strategies.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
' Specific Duties:
' Provide the leadership to ensure that Concentra is recognized as the industry leader in quality, service and cost-effective delivery of Occupational Medical services.
' Develop managed care standards, protocols and practice guidelines for primary care physicians. Design an education and audit process to provide physicians and management with outcomes information.
' Coordinate and develop plans for providing employers with on-site medical services, including medical director consultations, hourly physician, physician assistant, nursing and safety consultant services within an integrated occupational health care system.
' Develop capitated programs with employers to institute preventive and consultative services, including pre-placement examinations, drug screening, safety training, medical surveillance, industrial hygiene and ergonomic analyses.
' Participate in development and maintenance of a premier network of occupational medicine providers throughout the region by:
o Developing relationships with primary care and specialty physicians hospitals, imaging centers and other providers.
o Establishing and implementing educational programs and processes to ensure that the care and related administrative requirements provided by network providers is consistent with OccuSystems' philosophy and quality standards.
o Developing a provider financial incentive program for improvements in indemnity outcomes.
' Develop relationships with managed care plans to become the preferred provider of 24 Hour programs.
' Lead and/or participate in development discussions with managed care plans, self-insured employers and third party administrators desiring risk-sharing or capitated arrangements.
' Develop, implement and lead a quality improvement program, which is consistent with NCQA standards. This program should result in the highest quality and most efficient delivery of occupational medicine services. The incumbent will:
o lead a Quality Improvement Committee and its supporting structure.
o Establish and implement credentialing standards and processes.
o Support the development and implementation of patient and employer satisfaction surveys.
o Lead a formal provider peer review process holding physicians and other providers accountable for the appropriateness and quality of care provided.
' Coordinate the participation of non-OccuSystems providers in the quality improvement process.
' Participate in the corporate office Managed Care Task Force
' Establish a process for expanding the programs and best practices developed in the Western region to the rest of the company. Integrate this process into OccuSystems' expanding marketing strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
' Board Certified in Occupational Medicine.
' Three to five years managed care experience.
' At least five years practice in clinical occupational medicine.
' At least three years experience in physician management.
' At least three years experience in Occupational Medicine consulting with employer groups.
' Experience developing and leading medical quality improvement programs, preferably in a managed care setting.
' Experience with National Committee for Quality Improvement (NCQA) standards for quality improvement and credentialing.
' Experience developing and implementing medical practice guidelines.
