Physician or APN in Neurosurgery

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To assist the Neurosurgeon in his day to day activities in the care of acute and non-acute neurosurgical patients, and assist in administrative and research departmental activities.

Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation. 
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 1.  Performance of history and physical examinations.
 2.  To Assist the Chief of Neurosurgery in clinic.
 3.  To make rounds and write notes on inpatients daily.
 4.  To assist the Neurosurgeon in the Operating Room.
 5.  To enter patients orders  into the computer as transmitted by the Chief of Neurosurgery.
 6.  To speak with parents regarding results of medical imaging, laboratory procedures.
 7.  To assess patients in the E.R. and order appropriate studies.
 8.  To dictate discharge summaries.
 9.  Perform VP shunt tap and other invasive procedures.
10. Assist in ICU procedures

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

I.  Education, Training and Experience

- Certification by NCCPA
- Graduation from PA program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AHEA) of the AMA.
-Pass national certifying exam
-DE State licensure to practice as PA
-Experience and familiarity with pediatric neurosurgical problems.

II.  Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

Must successfully pass national certifying examination and be certified by NCCPA.  Also must complete the requirements to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Delaware.
