Respiratory Care Practitioner III

Nights 6:30PM - 7AM
Responsibilities :
Responds to all Code Blues. Performs external cardiac compressions and artificial ventilation.
Performs radial and brachial arterial punctures and ABG analysis.
Sets up and administers aerosol, humidification, and oxygen therapy.
Performs therapeutic percussion, vibration, broncho-pulmonary drainage, breathing and coughing exercises, hydration, and mechanical clearance of the airway through proper suctioning.
Administers breathing treatments with prescribed medications as per departmental policy and procedure.
Maintains and monitors patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including CMV, SIMV, PSV, PCV, and all weaning protocols.
Is responsible for setting up the maintenance and monitoring of all neonatal patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including SIMV, HFOV, weaning parameters, and surfactant replacement therapy.
Responds to all C/S team deliveries, high-risk deliveries, and neo-natal resuscitation in the delivery room, surgery, or the NICU.
Assumes responsibility for respiratory procedures performed on neonates.
Following all patient therapy administered, makes proper notification in patient's record as per department policies all equipment is in proper working order and follows department policies to control nosocomial infections.
Performs all necessary record keeping (electronic charting, billing, QC assignment board, assignment book, etc.).
Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Reports to work on time, completes work within designated time.
Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch correctly.
Qualifications :
High education. Completion of an AMA approved 1 or 2 year Respiratory Therapy Program. Formal training in neonatal respiratory care. Current State of California RCP license. Successful completion of the NBRC CRT exam. Current BCLS. Preferred PALS. Current NRP. RRT preferred.
Experience/Skills: Recent respiratory care experience in an acute care facility including adult critical care. Pediatric and neonatal care. Competent in the performance of oxygen and aerosol therapy, hyperventilation therapy, volume measuring devices, pulmonary medication delivery, sputum induction, chest physio-therapy, airway maintenance, emergency respiratory care equipment and procedures, arterial blood gas puncture and analysis. Competency in adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care procedures, including ventilator management and all its adjuncts.
Language Skills: Hear/speak adequately to communicate with and be understood by staff, patients, physicians and general public.
