CLINICAL ABSTRACTION SPECIALIST

Job Type: Part Time/20 hours a week

Location:  San Francisco, Financial District

As part of the Quality & Performance Improvement team, performs medical reviews and abstractions of clinical data utilizing medical knowledge in the application of physician-developed guidelines for multiple healthcare clinical systems improvement projects. Achieves the goal of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to improve quality of care rendered to Medicare beneficiaries by providing accurate clinical data.

 Duties and Responsibilities

 

? Applies clinical knowledge of disease processes and current medical care practices and procedures in the application of physician-developed guidelines for abstraction of clinical data. Formulates medical decisions based on clinical knowledge. Discuss with appealing hospitals the results of review.

? Participates in cross-functional teams and coordinates with other departments in developing effective strategies for successful implementation of clinical systems improvement projects.

? Performs internal quality control process to ensure the accuracy and quality of abstracted data utilizing monitoring tools.

? Performs direct entry of abstracted data into CART system and tracks and updates process activities in CRIS and PSUS systems and data upload to QNET for hospitals that need assistance with data submission.

? Performs team lead role: Provides ongoing management of reports/graphs, e.g., productivity, workload assessment, and proficiency reports/graphs; provides the team with data that supports improvement needs; coordinates abstraction activities within the team and other departments; resolves process issues in abstraction; facilitates team meetings. Job Qualifications

 

? 3 + yrs. clinical experience in an acute care setting/related experience, or allied health professional with 5 + yrs. of related experience.

? Extensive experience in medical record review and abstraction of clinical data.

? Ability to effectively communicate and interact with healthcare providers and internal customers.

? Demonstrated knowledge in intermediate computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word, and GroupWise applications.

? Experience in utilization and quality review desired.

? BSN and California RN Licensure preferred
