Director of Health Management Information

Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston is a 30-bed pediatric burn hospital providing no-cost comprehensive acute care, reconstructive and rehabilitative care to children. Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston is seeking an experienced manager to lead our Health Information Management (Medical Record) department. This individual will direct and supervise aspects of Health Information Management including coding, record processing, release of information, transcription, burn registry and system maintenance and support. Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and standards related to health information practices, policy and procedure development, annual budget development, providing health information related education and training to facility employees as well as the oversight of record completion, transmission, indexing, abstracting, transcription services, coding research, filing, storage, retrieval, correspondence and maintenance of the medical record. The position requires a close working relationship with medical staff. The Director of HIM serves as Privacy/Security Officer. The successful candidate will be able to access current HIM operations from people, process and technology perspectives. Requirements include a bachelor?s degree in health information management or related fields, RHIA or RHIT certification and at least 3 years related healthcare management experience. Applicants should be knowledgeable of federal and state laws and standards of practice, have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and be proficient in information systems, Microsoft office, database and report writing software.
