We are looking for an HIM Processor for our Lansing, MI location!Position Summary:

Under direct supervision and according to established policies and procedures, processes patient medical information including prepping, scanning, retrieving and routing of electronic or paper documents.  Performs routine clerical tasks and other related duties as required to meet the needs of the Health Information Management department or clinic.



  Essential Functions:

q Obtains patient medical information from units upon patient discharge; Sign out and route records to appropriate location

q Prepares records for scanning according to facility guidelines; Assemble records in approved chart order according to chart type

q Scans medical information into document imaging system

q Retrieves and files forms and records as needed to maintain manual file system; Retrieves records for patient care, studies, committees and other requests

q Indexes documents to appropriate category within imaging system for retrieval

q Performs quantity and quality checks on scanned medical information as part of quality index function

q Maintains and updates chart locator system and death log

q Process birth certificates electronically or manually, maintains birth log

q Coordinates completion and filing of certificates of live birth, fetal death, paternity agreements, and other associated documentation in accordance with state public health rules and regulations

q Retrieves and files forms and records as needed to maintain manual file system

q Serves as an information resource by responding to requests for general and medical information received via phone, fax or in person

q Processes release of information requests

 Other Duties and Responsibilities:

q Answers phones, greets and assists customers and performs other customer service related duties

q Responsible for daily system check and runs daily report for suspended physicians

 

 

Education, Experience & Licensure:



q High school diploma or GED

 

Skills & Requirements:



q At least three months of related computer (CTR, PC or other keyboard systems) experience

q Analytical ability to discern compliance with authorization requirements

q Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange factual information with internal and/or external customers on a frequent basis

q Organizational skills necessary to handle content and timeliness requirements of release of information process and chart completion process

q Ability to read English and understand numeric filing

q Ability to perform basic clerical duties that include operating standard office equipment including fax machine, photocopier, microfiche, telephone, etc.
