Health Information Management (HIM) Director
Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), is a nationally recognized teaching, research and public hospital in downtown Minneapolis. We are a Level 1 Trauma Center that is repeatedly listed in the U.S. News and World Report rankings of the top U.S. hospitals in the annual ?America?s Best Hospitals? report. The medical center has close to 4,000 employees and is staffed by 720 full and part-time physicians and dentists. This is a full-time department head opportunity that will report directly to Hennepin County Medical Center?s (HCMC) Chief Information Officer. This position will oversee the daily operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) department within HCMC and will provide leadership as the HIM department moves from a paper to an electronic environment.
The Key Responsibilities for this role are:
Primarily be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and directing the activities, services and results of Health Information Management (HIM).
? Lead HIM members with a focus on teamwork, communication, adaptability and quality service delivery.
? Plan, communicate and assess HIM goals, objectives, desired results and quantity/quality standards.
? Develop long range plans for HIM activities, consistent with HCMC and information services mission, vision and strategic plans. Lead staff toward implementation of the long-range plans.
? Oversee staffing, human resource, performance and process improvement activities for department.
? Interview, select, coach, develop and evaluate HIM management team. Assure competency of all department staff.
? Prepare staff for changing roles and processes in the electronic health record environment.
? Ensure adherence to accreditation standards, documentation requirements and legal statutes.
? Prepare and control operating and capital budgets.
? Manage revenue cycle functions such as Coding and DRG Assurance. Meet financial targets.
? Serve as organizational resource for all HIM issues.
? Participate on HCMC or external teams, committees and projects.
? Develop and maintain professional, organizational and community liaisons.
? Manage outsourcing relationship with Hennepin Faculty Associates (HFA).
? Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Education and Experience requirements for this specific position are:
? Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Administration / Medical Record Administration. Education program must be accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). A Master's Degree in Health Information Technology or Management is desirable.
? Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
? A minimum of five (5) years of professional medical records/HIM experience, including at least two (2) years of management experience.
? Prior experience implementing an electronic health record in HIM strongly preferred.
