Junior Database Administrator

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position is responsible for monitoring, administering, and maintaining assigned Practice Technology Services Organization (PTSO) database instances that support day-to-day production requirements. This position requires some experience executing data analysis and data administration best practices. This position will work with a senior level database administrator to ensure SQL Server and other database applications are operating at the highest level of efficiency possible. This position requires junior level data architecture, logical, and physical modeling, and effective communication skills. This position must provide world-class customer service. This position will maintain a strong working knowledge of database and operations tools, technology, and how to apply these to the PTSO environment. This position will support database implementations. This position will work closely with the Technical Support Analysts, System Administrators, IT management, customers, and other teammates in building processes and procedures. This position will be part of a 24x7 rotational on-call roster to ensure on going support is available for the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Work with a senior level database administrator to install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and report metrics on assigned databases, hardware, networked devices, and applications.
B. Work closely with the PTSO team and member practices to ensure PTSO databases operate at optimal levels.
C. Plan and schedule assigned tasks as required to assure timely completion.
D. Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of SQL and other environments and tools.
E. Regularly log system tuning, performance monitoring, and database maintenance activity along with issuing timely user notifications.
F. Develop and maintain working relationships with team members, management, other teams, customers, and vendors as appropriate.
G. Complete assignments in accordance with sound database administration, development practices, and project management practices.
H. Work with teams to evaluate tools, applications, and reporting tools.
I. Work with users to import and export data to/from databases.
J. Work with users to identify and deliver required service levels.
K. Work with a senior level database administrator to analyze, diagnose, and resolve database problems as well as implement approved corrective solutions.
L. Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and e-mails regarding database issues.
M. Produce appropriate documentation and activity reports as required based on industry approved standards.
N. Accurately document and report instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, replacement, and removal.
O. If necessary, liaise with third-party support and vendors, and others as assigned.
P. Establish and maintain good working relationships with users and management in the organization.
Q. Be willing and available for limited travel to other PTSO member sites.
R. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
College Degree or recent equivalent work experience. Certification in Database Administration highly desirable. Possess junior to mid-level proficiency in SQL security, backup procedures, and recovery procedures. Proficiency in database design, validation, operating systems, database maintenance, and reporting a plus.
Prior Related Experience:
1 plus years experience in SQL database administration, utilities, and tools. Experienced in change management and data management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Capability to handle tools, reach with hands and arms, to climb, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift up to 20 pounds; and ability to move up to 50 pounds.
Access to Protected Health Information
This position performs principle duties of a Database Administrator that will have access to and be required to protect the confidentiality of all company data, subscriber information, business, and technical information in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. The incumbent will have access to sensitive information in the execution of duties while performing:
? Database set up with access to PHI;
? Troubleshooting devices issues and databases that contain PHI;
? Changing, adding software, configuring applications, etc. that will have access the PHI; and
? Performing systems and database optimization, general maintenance, user training, and tuning on databases that contain PHI.
