Medical Records/Billing Clerk

Objective

Maintain medical record functions through pulling, copying/scanning, indexing, filing, assembling, routing, storing, and retrieving patient records. Manage the process and procedures for assuring the completion of scanned documents; the operation of the document imaging workstation; and the quality review of scanned documents. To provide the medical billing department with administrative/clerical support.

Duties and Responsibilities

"? Prepares monthly record tracking of receipt of patient charts
"? Maintain corporate files of current medical records by scanning information into electronic medical records system
"? Scan and index all incoming EOB"&tm;s, checks, patient letters, and any other type of related patient account correspondence
"? Scan and index all incoming medical records documents
"? Troubleshoot issues and customer support to ensure ongoing satisfaction of document imaging to all users
"? Receive and distribute patient billing information for all PET account patients
"? Complete incoming correspondence requests for medical record information according to Federal/State law
"? Filing facility worksheets into binders as hardcopy backup
"? Handle storage of medical records and deposit batches via document imaging
"? Maintain offsite storage of medical records in logs located in corporate office
"? Assist all site receptionists and PET coordinators in archiving records offsite
"? Pull explanation of benefits (EOB"&tm;s) and invoices; make copies as necessary; re-file originals
"? Receive and record receipt of patient charts from Nuclear Imaging facilities
"? Respond to releases for requests for medical information
"? Provide administrative support to the billing department managers
"? Provide assistance with benefit verifications
"? Provide back up coverage for data entry, payment posting, follow up, etc.
"? Provide general clerical duties such as, mailings, faxing, copying, shredding, filing, collating, etc.
"? Works on special projects organizing specific aspects of maintaining medical records

Required Skills:
Experience

"? High School Diploma or GED required
"? 6 months medical billing experience or experience in a medical administrative office preferred
"? Ability to use a computer for data input, retrieval of data, and running reports
"? Knowledge of HIPAA compliance
"? Knowledge of medical terminology a plus
"? Knowledge of network medical records document imaging procedures preferred
"? Prior data entry experience along with a keen eye for detail
"? Proficiency with MSOffice (Word, Excel, etc.), Internet, and E-mail
"? Working knowledge of medical record processes as well as applicable rules and regulations
