Release of Information Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:  General responsibilities include but are not limited to, organize and evaluate patient medical records. View and abstract medical record data to prepare a completed Patient Record for the Insurance Recovery Analyst.  A high attention to confidentiality and detail are required.  All HIPAA, state and federal and AHIMA standard practices are to be followed.  Other general office duties as required by Supervisor. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

?  Open, review and distribute all correspondence relative to patient medical record information to include but not limited to Insurance Requests, hospital and patient inquiries, IRA requests and Attorney Requests.

 

?  Log and maintain all release of information requests.

 

 

?  Access hospital system according to hospital defined policy for retrieval of Medical Records.  Review and prepare record in alignment with HIPAA, state and federal, and AHIMA defined PHI, non-disclosable information and Minimum Necessary Requirements

?  Perform quality review of records for completeness, accuracy and integrity for the purpose of payment of an injury related claim.

 

?   Must stay updated on state and federal regulations regarding the release of medical/health records

 

?  Learn and continually use/update FACS System on a daily basis.

 

?  Coordinate and retrieve records in a timely fashion as defined by policy

 



 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

? Past Healthcare and or Hospital experience with medical records. 

? Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality. 

? The Retrieval of Information Technician must be highly organized possess excellent ?follow-thru? skills and strong customer service skills.

?  Proven knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
