Bereavement Coordinator

Our team of caregivers consist of registered nurses, physicians, home healthcare aides, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and trained volunteers. Patients typically receive our services in their own homes or in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. But we also serve patients in hospitals and, in Odyssey's own freestanding hospice facilities.

Bereavement Coordinator
The Bereavement Coordinator (BC) is responsible for determining the level of care and support of bereaving families and significant others following the death of a hospice patient. The goal of the BC is to help the family/significant other cope with death related to grief and loss issues utilizing the necessary resources available, such as volunteers, social workers, spiritual care coordinators and more. Regularly assesses the family/significant others bereavement needs to determine appropriate course of action required. The BC coordinates and implements the Plan of Care provisions related to the bereavement needs of families/significant others, which will include (but is not limited to) cards and letters, organizing support groups, organizing one on one and group counseling, memorial services, and other assistance programs which may be developed. Re-evaluation of the family/significant others needs will be provided for a minimum of 12 months and may regularly go beyond, depending upon risk and other situational factors. The BC may work closely with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate needs and services of the family/significant others.

Bachelor?s Degree in Social Work or Counseling or equivalent theological degree from college or university, or certification of special training in bereavement. Master?s Degree preferred
Experience with families/caregivers and patients dealing with grief or in dealing with loss.
Identifies clients at risk for complicated grief. Recognizes signs and symptoms of chemical dependence and other psychiatric illnesses.
Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with clients from a variety of cultural, religious/spiritual, and socio-economic backgrounds.
