Charge Capture Specialist - Surgical Svcs (#3513.1) Ft-40 hrs 0700-1600 (40)

WORK DAYS: Monday - Friday

The person in this position serves as an expert resource for staff regarding patient charges, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, and insurance coverage.  This position is responsible for the accurate enter of Surgical Services charges, maintaining and updating all Surgical Services Chargemasters; assigning codes to medical records and maintaining a working knowledge of CPT and HCPC codes, I-9 codes, APC codes and DRG assignments.



Exhibits ability to work collaboratively with the Surgical Services management team, Surgical Services employees, and other hospital departments to resolve coding issues and minimize the incidence of denials. Maintains an expert knowledge level regarding insurance authorization and reimbursement. Performs audits to staff and physician documentation and provides feedback to staff and physicians to ensure accurate documentation. Provides training and education for Surgical Services personnel regarding coding and billing issues.  Maintains and updates statistical databases relevant to the revenue cycle.



May be cross-trained to other positions and perform other duties as assigned by the Operational Systems Manager Surgical Services.

Strong communication skills required.Excellent computer skills, knowledge, and expertise required.Working knowledge of Net Access, Excel, RMS, ORSOS, and other hospital and departmental information systems required.Chargemaster experience, with working knowledge of chargemasters.com and codecorrect.com websites.Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to multitask. Working knowledge of CPTs/HCPCS, ICD-9s, APC codes, DMERC billing, and DRG assignment.Certification as a coder preferred.Must have the ability to hold in confidence any information regarding pati­ents, personnel, or other information of a confidential nature.





Employment Requirements:Must have either an Associates or Bachelors degree in a healthcare discipline OR minimum of 5 years experience working with patient charging or financial reports.Experience working with insurance carriers.Understanding of Medicare guidelines.Chargemaster experience, with working knowledge of chargemasters.com and codecorrect.com websites preferred.Certification as a coder preferred.

Working Conditions:Must be capable of  lifting, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking, and sitting for long periods of time.Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds unaided using proper body mechanics and pass a physical capacities evaluation.
