EKG Technician 60613x1911x0925 20hrs/wk FTE .5

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Cardiac clinic charge nurse and direction of physicians,the EKG technician performs outpatient cardiac testing in the Heart Station. This position requires specialized knowledge of adult and geriatric populations, treadmill and EKG equipment, Holter and King of Heart monitors, identification of arrhymias, and pacemaker magnet checks.
Knowledge of EKG and equipment. Must be able to identify gross abnormalities on EKG and identify arrhythmia. Enter, edit, and retrieve data from MUSE system.
Knowledge of treadmill equipment and procedure. Should be able to identify problems with equipment and respond appropriately. Enter data into computer, hook-up and instruct patient on procedure, and identify EKG abnormalities and arrhythmias.
Knowledge of Holter and King of Hearts monitor equipment and its function. Identify equipment problems and respond appropriately. Hook-up and instruction of patients on monitor use.
Maintain inventory and schedules service of Holter and King of Heart monitor equipment. Makes recommendations for purchase of new equipment. Establishes contacts with representatives from appropriate providers of equipment.
Perform pacemaker checks using PaceArt:: EKG with and without magnet and rhythm strip, including telephonic transfers. Identify appropriate pacemaker response to magnet and recognize abnormalities and report to RN or MD.
Knowledge of Lifepak and other defibrillators in the department and be able to assist physician with its use.
Scheduling of Holter and King of Heart referrals, with patient contact within GHC quidelines.
Appropriately processing EKG?s, Holter and King of Heart monitors, and treadmills (maintain log, copy, file, and send to appropriate MD/clinic).
Willingness to circuit ride to outreach locations for pacemaker clinics.
Participation in orientation of new heart station employees.



QUALIFICATIONS:


High School Diploma.  Graduate of MA or EMT preferred.
1 year EKG experience required.
Treadmill and Holter monitor experience preferred.
Work situations require precision, attention to detail, a customer service individual with discretion and good judgement in decision making. Extensive contact with patients, physicians, GHC patient care staff and management.
Some heavy lifting.



CERTIFICATES/LICENSURES:


MA or EMT certification.
Must be BLS certified with ACLS preferred.
