Health Educator

The Seminole Tribe of Florida Health Department is seeking a Health Educator to be based at our Clinic on our Big Cypress Reservation.

 

Summary:

 

The incumbent is vested with the responsibility to develop, implement and supervise a broadbased comprehensive health promotion and disease prevention program for the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

 

Requirements:

1.  BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health

education, community or public health.  OR

2.   A bachelors degree from an accredited  college or university in one of the biologic

sciences, nutrition (license eligible), education, public relations, behavioral science

or communications with one year of professional experience in providing health

education services.  A Master?s degree in one of the above can substitute for required

professional experience.  OR

3.   Three years of experience in health and health education, working on appropriate

credentials (to be completed within 24 months of employment).

4.   Supervisory or management experience preferred.

5.   Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.

6.   Valid Florida Driver?s License in good standing.

2.   Identifies health education needs, concerns and resources through appropriate assessment

Methods.

3.   Plans and implements health education, disease prevention (includes screenings) and fitness programs in response to identified needs of community and employee body.

4.   Coordinates health education programs with other State, Federal and local programs.

5.   Assists in health career development, promotes health careers, assists and serves as a resource  for other Tribal education or prevention promotions.

6.   Prepares a written Health Education Plan, which addresses need areas, problems, and objectives for Patient Education, School Health Education, Worksite Wellness, Community Health Education and Program Administration.

7.   Documents all aspects of the educational process; needs assessment, individualized plan or

group lesson plan, priority objectives, teaching process and evaluation of patient outcomes for

each program, group or activity.

8.   Develops, updates and maintains Health Education Policy and Procedure manual.

9.   Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of diabetes management specific to patient population.

10.   Assists in the preparation of program budgets and/or grant applications as requested.

11.   Reports activities regularly and submits written reports in a timely manner.

12.   Keeps appropriate records and documents all patient contact in medical records.

13.   Participates in all assigned community, school or employee events.

14.   Develops or assists in the development of quality assurance mechanisms for the Health Education program.

15.   Maintains and updates an educational Resource Library to include teaching tools and

audiovisual equipment, and keeps appropriate records to measure use and effectiveness.

16.  Provides technical assistance to other program managers.

17.  Designs, prepares and selects culturally appropriate exhibits, posters and literature for

dissemination through various communication media.  Reviews and revises existing materials.

18.  Develops and implements or facilitates staff development programs for Health Department

staff as requested.

19.  Supervises and provides leadership for assigned Health Education program staff members.

20.  When applicable, provides medical care consistent with current nursing licensure, at

designated Tribal events/functions, home visits or health center, as approved by Allied

Health Program manager.

21.  Other duties as assigned.
