MANAGER OF COMPENSATION

This position shares responsibility for managing specific compensation and retention programs and ensuring that the analysis, design, and administration of total rewards programs (e.g., compensation, benefits, retention, performance management) is accomplished in a timely, accurate, and cost effective manner at Catholic Healthcare West. This position reports to the Head of Compensation in the system Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting and HRIS consulting group.

This position participates as a member of the system total rewards consulting team. In addition, this position will have a key leadership role in the design, development and implementation of policies and practices around total rewards for the hospital facilities and various system offices.

a. Participates in and manages specific aspects of the analysis, design, development, implementation and communication of total rewards programs and their administration across multiple functions and/or across a significant number of multiple hospitals.

b. With general guidance and within a prescribed scope of work, manages the system-wide retention process. Conducts and manages retention program analysis to identify key HR levers in retaining employees. Develops and presents findings and recommendations to HR committees and HR leaders for the System as well as individual hospitals. Also manages vendor contracts as well as administering the STOP (Strategic Turnover program) and the new hire retention survey.

c. Serves as primary rewards resource to specific facility clients, including salary structure development, implementation of the Salary Increase System, and benefits performance management support.

d. Participates with colleagues in a leadership role with the design, development, and implementation of system-wide rewards programs for all hospitals facilities, including incentive plan development, retention plans, implementation of performance management system(s), and benefits analysis.

e. Manages the market analysis for all levels of positions in the hospitals and related facilities as assigned.

f. Participates and as assigned, assumes a leadership role in the consulting process with HR colleagues.

g. Adds value in the compensation arena to the human resources leadership community.

h. Further develops and introduces technology to streamline human resources and compensation management by CHW leaders and human resources professionals. Helps support on-going maintenance of that technology.


This position requires a BA/BS degree in Human Resources or related field with six to eight years progressively greater depth in total rewards management experience. Previous experience in a large company dealing with a breadth of total reward issues and process re-design is required. A WorldatWork CCP Certification is highly desirable.

The successful incumbent will have quantitative and analytical experience with strong management, consultative and relationship building capabilities.

This position requires proficiency in the use of computer spreadsheets (primarily Excel), word processing (Word), and database management. It requires effective communication (written and verbal) and management skills.
