This position supports managed care contracting and administration for more than 600 physicians associated with 3 DC hospitals that are part of MedStar Health. Working directly with the VP of Managed Care Physician Services, the Contract Manager will be responsible for a wide variety of duties related to data analysis and strategy development, contract development, negotiation, implementation, and ongoing management of managed care contracts, as well as payer and provider relationships and documentation of agreements.


Responsibilities:
Evaluation, implementation, and monitoring of MedStar Health agreements with managed care payers
Negotiation of payer contracts Assessment/communication of managed care trends Participation in development of reporting systems to measure, track and monitor utilization and financial performance of managed care contracts for DC physicians Assisting in negotiation of contracts; providing input to development of contracting methodologies, identifying rate and non-rate issues Consulting with representatives from Finance, clinical and administrative operations, physician billing units, Legal, etc. Facilitating provider-plan relationships Developing and providing educational opportunities as needed for internal
employees and physicians Researching market opportunities Interacting with local professional associations to share issues and interests Interacting with internal groups/divisions/ departments to share issues and solve problems



Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Hospital Administration, or related clinical field or discipline; MBA/MHS or other graduate degree with a health care concentration preferred Prefer 2-3 years' health care marketplace experience, preferably with physicians and/or managed care Experience should include health care reimbursement, including familiarity with CPT and ICD coding Must possess knowledge of clinical delivery setting, health care insurance including Medicare and Medicaid, and provider contracting and reimbursement arrangements Ability to use spreadsheet and database software required (MS Access and MS Excel) Excellent verbal and written communication skills required Must be highly organized and able to work somewhat independently under guidance from VP
